Employment opportunities for job seekers on the autism spectrum

Specialisterne Australia offers an alternative for people on the autism spectrum to connect with employers who recognise the valuable contributions and talents that people with autism can bring to their organisations. We offer a unique tailored workshop and assessment program whereby applicants can demonstrate their skills & abilities in a practical, hands-on environment directly to employers.

In September, we are running a 3-week candidate recruitment program at 360 Collins Street, Melbourne for autistic jobseekers offering the opportunity to be considered for employment opportunities in a number of roles with various Victorian councils. This program offers participants the opportunity to receive practical skill development training to prepare for employment.

What roles are we recruiting for?

We are looking for candidates who have a genuine interest in numerous fields including but not limited to Website Accessibility Content, Government and Corporate Support, Auditing, Data Entry, Data Analytics, Risk and Compliance, Quality Assurance and IT (such as Application Development, Testing and Cyber Security).

Applicant essential requirements:

  • Must be aged 18 years or older
  • Must have a diagnosis of autism (including Autism spectrum disorder, Asperger’s disorder, Autistic disorder, or PDD-NOS)
  • Must have proof of Australian Citizenship or right to work in Australia
  • Should live within a daily commutable distance of Melbourne
  • Must be able to attend the entire Specialisterne program which includes:
  • Attendance of a one-day, practical skills assessment Pre-Selection Workshop (Wednesday 25th September 2019)
  • Attendance of a 3 week training & assessment program (Monday 30th September to Friday 18th October 2019)

Please note: individuals with existing commitments during this period must advise at time of application

Applicant desirable requirements:

Candidates interested in Data Analytics or IT related opportunities will ideally:

  • be working towards completing a bachelor’s degree or TAFE qualification in STEM discipline subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or similar related disciplines or have real-world experience within these areas
  • have an understanding of Python or C

Please note: there is no guarantee that participation in this training and assessment program will lead to employment. However, candidates who participate in this program will be added to our pool of pre-assessed candidates which we can then market to employers and will enable our team to assess candidates’ skills and abilities for future job opportunities.
